Five days integrated fish farming training organised at KVK, Barnala

Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University’s Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Barnala organized a five days vocational course on Integrated Fish Farming for self employment under the guidance of Dr. Prahalad Singh Tanwar Associate Director, KVK, Barnala. The financial assistance for said training course was provided by National Fisheries Development Board, Bombay.  In this training programme total 22 rural youth and farmers from 8 villages of Barnala district were participated. Dr. P.S. Tanwar inaugurated the training and said that the fish farming is a new emerging area for self employment and Punjab Government is emphasizing more on fish farming.  He said that fish farming may be integrated with poultry  and pig farming and farmer can utilize their own resources in better way by adopting integrated system.

Sh. Khushvir Singh, Assistant Professor (Fisheries), KVK, Barnala delivered comprehensive lecture on different types of cultivable fishes, their identification, breeding & rearing of fishes, their integration with agriculture and livestock farming systems for efficient recycling of waste, various diseases and their control, seasonal management, preparation of fish feed and management of fish pond. More emphasis was given on practical aspects of the fish farming during the training.  Scientists from different KVK, State Department of Fisheries and College of fisheries, GADVASU, Ludhiana were also invited to deliver the lecture.

An exposure visit was also arranged at Integrated Fish cum Pig farm model unit of Mr. Sukhminder Singh at village Uppali (Barnala) trainees.
