KVK Mohali organised vocational training on Integration of Agriculture and Animal husbandry with Fish farming

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Mohali organized vocational training under ICAR scheme on “Integration of Agriculture and Animal husbandry with Fish farming” from 15.12.2017 to 21.12.2017 at village Tangori, S.A.S. Nagar (Mohali). The training programme was organized under the guidance of Dr H.K. Verma, Director Extension Education and Dr Yashwant Singh, Deputy Director Training. 24 progressive farmers and rural youth took part in this training programme. Dr. Vikas Phulia, Assistant Professor (Fisheries) and Dr Priyanka Suryavanshi, Assistant Professor (Agronomy) coordinated this training. Dr. Vikas Phulia encouraged farmers for adopting ornamental fish farming and integration of aquaculture with dairy for enhancing farm income. He motivated farmers to practice fish farming on scientific basis as recommended by experts. Dr. Priyanka shared her expertise for scientific cultivation of rabi season crops, production of vermicompost and azolla as manure and growing baby corn and sweet corn as cash crops. Farmers were also made aware of emerging concept of organic farming, use of biofertilisers, NADEP and Phospho compost and green manuring. Dr. Yashwant Singh discussed need for integration of animal husbandry and backyard poultry farming with crop production. Mr. Afzal Ahmad (Assistant Seed Production Specialist P.A.U. Seed Farm, Nabha) gave detailed lecture about certified and truthfully labeled seed production at farmers field. They also led an exposure visit of trainees to technology park, polyhouse, micro irrigation unit, farm machinery and rainwater harvesting system at KVK, Samrala. Dr. Sanjeev Ahuja, Assistant Professor (Horticulture) from KVK Ropar gave detailed lecture on mushroom production. Dr. Parul Gupta, Assistant Professor (Home Science) also shared her wide knowledge on value addition of farm produce and post-harvest management and role of SHGs in self-dependence of farm women.
