Vet Varsity celebrates

Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana celebrated ‘Jai Kisan Jai Vigyan’ Week on the birth anniversary of former Prime Ministers Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Late Shri Chaudhary Charan Singh.

GADVASU celebrated at its different KVKs (Barnala, Tarn Taran and Mohali).  Different programmes were organized to create awareness among the farming communities and to implement and disseminate the improved livestock & crop technologies & innovations for profitable and sustainable farming system in the State. Other aspects like soil conservation, soil health for food security, organic nutrient management techniques through various sources of organic nutrients, role of organic manures and bio fertilizers in different crops and year round cropping sequences for higher profitability under climatic change scenario. Mineral mixture, Uromin lick and Vermi-compost were also sold to the farmers. Queries related to cropping system and livestock were elucidated on the spot by different experts. KVKs also organized quiz and essay writing competition for school children’s at Tarn Taran under the theme of ‘Jai Kisan Jai Vigyan. Dr HK Verma, Director of Extension Education addressed the students and highlighted the importance of agriculture and animal husbandry in daily life. He highlighted the achievements and various technologies released by the University for increasing farmer’s income.

GADVASU also organized awareness -cum- training programme in Dhaner village of Barnala district adopted under Farmer FIRST project. Dr HK Verma interacted with the villagers and motivated them to adopt livestock technologies & innovations for profitable and sustainable livestock farming in the state through integrated livestock farming system. Different experts from GADVASU, PAU, KVKs and Research and Training centre participated under the leadership of Dr. S.K. Kansal. A reference library of different publications of GADVASU was established in the Dhaner village under this project.

An awareness programme of pig farmers association of Punjab was organized at GADVASU campus. Dr. Y.S. Jadoun interacted and discussed the importance of this week. Dr. S.S. Sooch, Sr. Research Engineer-cum-director, PAU delivered lecture on biogas production from pig waste.

Dr. A.S. Nanda, Vice Chancellor appreciated the efforts of the scientists for undertaking various programmes on this occasion to make it a grand success.
