Krishi Vigyan Kendra organized Farmer Field School for Pig farmers
Krishi Vigyan Kendra, S.A.S. Nagar (Mohali) organized a Farmer Field School for pig farmers of the district. This school was organized at Sidhu-Kialon Pig Farm in which pig farmers from various parts of the district participated. Dr. Randhir Singh, Assistant Professor (Livestock Production) informed about the importance of such farmer field schools and told farmers that this is a unique learning tool for farmers by observing the things directly in a farm/field. The main focus of this school was importance of balanced feeding in pigs. Dr. Randhir Singh provided a detailed insight about balanced swine feeding. S. Sanjit Singh Sidhu (Sidhu-Kialon Pig Farm) led the KVK team and participants to his pig farm and gave detailed information of his day to day activities being carried out in farm. He informed farmers about his feeding practices and other management techniques. He also led the team and participants to his fish pond. Dr. Vikas Phulia, Assistant Professor (Fisheries) informed the participants about the profits of integrated pig-cum-fish farming.
