KVK, S.A.S. Nagar organizes one week vocational training on Integrated Farming
Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University’s Krishi Vigyan Kendra, S.A.S. Nagar (Mohali) organised one week off-campus vocational training on ‘Integrated Farming’ at village Tangori, Block Kharar. The training was organised under RKVY scheme in which twenty farmers belonging to scheduled caste community including eight farmwomen participated. On inaugural day, training coordinator Dr. Vikas Phulia, Assistant Professor apprised the farmers regarding objective of the training and various activities carried out by KVK for farmers’ benefits. He also delivered talk on scope of ornamental fish farming for employment generation to unemployed youth and farmwomen of the village. Dr. Phulia also motivated farmers for integration of agriculture and animal husbandry profession with fish farming in order to maximise farm income. Deputy Director (Training), Dr. Yashwant Singh encouraged farmers to adopt backyard poultry for employment generation. Dr. Randhir Singh, Assistant Professor emphasised the importance of dairy and goat farming as commercial enterprise. Dr. Harmeet Kaur, Assistant Professor discussed the importance of Bee Keeping as source of employment for the farmers. Dr. Munish Sharma, Assistant Professor gave detailed lectures on planting and management of orchard for commercial venture and protected cultivation for enhanced income generation. Dr. Parul Gupta, Assistant Professor discussed the importance of value addition of farm produce to achieve higher profit. She also encouraged women trainees to form a self-help group to attain self-dependence. During the training, an exposure visit was also organized to PAU and GADVASU, Ludhiana. Farmers visited the Integrated Farming System unit established by Department of Agronomy, PAU. Dr. S. S. Walia, Professor (Agronomy) explained to trainees how they can adopt diversified farming in limited land area generating higher income. Farmers also visited fish farm, goat arm and piggery unit at GADVASU. Dr. S.N. Dutta, Assistant Professor (Fisheries) assisted in exposure visit of farmers to fish farm of College of Fisheries. Sh. J. S. Gill, Senior Fisheries Officer, District Mohali imparted knowledge regarding fish farming in village community ponds and various subsidies schemes provided by Department of Fisheries, Govt. of Punjab. S. Rattan Singh, Deputy Director, Farmers Training Centre at Fatehgarh Sahib was also invited to provide the information regarding various financial schemes offered by various agencies to the farmers. On concluding day of the training, certificates and inputs like literature, mineral mixture and uromin lick bricks were distributed to the trainees.
