Vocational training programme on Commercial Pig farming was conducted by KVK Mohali

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Mohali of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University Ludhiana organized One week vocational training on “Commercial Pig Farming” at its campus in Kurali. Eleven farmers took part in this training programme. Under the guidance of Dr Yashwant Singh, Deputy Director, K.V.K, Mohali, conducted this training programme. He motivated farmers for pig farming and asked them to integrate pig farming with aquaculture for proper utilization of resources and maximizing the profit from per unit area. He also briefed trainees regarding various facilities provided by K.V.K and GADVASU, Ludhiana for the farmers. He delivered his lecture on comfortable housing management of different categories of pig. Dr Shashi Pal, Assistant Professor, Livestock Production (Training Coordinator) gave detailed lecture and practical exposure on various breeds of pig, feeding management of different categories of pig, diseases of pig, record-keeping and economics of pig farm. Dr Nitin Mehta, Assistant Professor gave lecture on processing of pig meat and its value addition. Dr Parul Gupta, Assistant Professor delivered her lecture on utilization and proper management of kitchen waste (hotel, restaurant and marriage palace etc.) to economise the pig farming. Dr Munish Sharma, Assistant Professor (Horticulture) gave lecture on utilization of vegetable leftover in pig farming and to cut down cost of feeding. Dr Ankit, Assistant Professor briefed trainees about diseases of pig, prevention and reproductive management in pig. During this training programme trainees were given practical exposure at Forever Pig farm, Barouli and pig farm owner shared his experiences with the participants. All participants thanked KVK faculty for conducting such an excellent training programme.
