Vocational training programme on “Goat farming” was conducted by KVK SAS Nagar (Mohali)

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, SAS Nagar (Mohali) of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University Ludhiana organized One week vocational training on “Goat Farming” at its campus located in Kurali. Ten farmers took part in this training programme. Under the guidance of Dr Yashwant Singh, Deputy Director, K.V.K, Mohali, conducted this training programme. He motivated farmers for goat farming and proper utilization of resources and maximizing the profit from per unit area. He also briefed trainees regarding various facilities provided by K.V.K and GADVASU, Ludhiana. He delivered his lecture on comfortable housing management of different categories of goat. Dr Shashi Pal, Assistant Professor, Livestock Production (Training Coordinator) gave detailed lecture and practical exposure on various breeds of goat, feeding management of different category of goat, recordkeeping, diseases of goat, reproductive management and economics of goat farm. Dr Nitin Mehta, Assistant Professor gave lecture on processing of goat meat and its value addition. Dr Parul Gupta, Assistant Professor delivered lecture on nutritional aspects of goat milk. Dr Munish Sharma, Assistant Professor (Horticulture) gave lecture on utilization of vegetable leftover in goat farming and to cut down cost of feeding. Dr Vikas Phulia, Assistant Professor briefed trainees about integration of goat farming with aquaculture. Sh. Harpreet Singh, from Dairy Department delivered his lecture on value addition of goat milk. Dr. Sudhansu Thakur and Sh. Abhinab Arya from HDFC Bank, Chandigarh, guided the trainees about the procedure of loan and various schemes for livestock farming. During this training programme trainees were given practical exposure at Goat Farm, Shakrullapur and goat farm owner shared his experiences with the participants. Participants thanked KVK faculty for conducting such an excellent and interactive mode of training programme.
