KVK Barnala Organizes Vocational training on Bee keeping

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Barnala of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University Ludhiana, organized a seven day vocational training programme for rural youth of Barnala district. Dr. P. S. Tanwar, Associate Director, KVK, Barnala inaugurated the training by welcoming all the trainees. He highlighted the activities carried out by the KVK and also emphasized on the adoption of Bee-Keeping as a subsidiary occupation for enhancing their income .He also motivated the trainees for  processing, packaging and direct marketing of honey to get more return. Dr. K. S. Matharu, Assistant Professor (Plant Protection), KVK, Barnala  imparted technical knowhow on different aspects of bee keeping like identification of important caste of honey bee, life cycle of European bee, seasonal management, queen bee rearing, laying worker, availability of flora, feed and feeding management, demonstration on honey extraction,  management of insect-pest and diseases of honey bee. The video films developed by ICAR, New Delhi on honey bee rearing were showed to the trainees and more emphasis was given on practical aspects. Dr. Harjot Singh, Assistant Professor (Horticulture), delivered a lecture on availability of nector and pollen in different horticultural crops in different season. Mr. Khushvir Singh, Assistant Professor (Fisheries) suggested  farmers to use the dikes of fish  pound  for bee keeping  Dr. Anjuly Sharma , Assistant Professor (Home Science) delivered lecture to prepare products from honey like honey-ginger syrup, honey turmeric and ginger antiseptic and honey-lime, she also awared the trainees about use of honey in their daily life. A total of 25 rural youth were participated in this training programme.
