Kisan Mela organized by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Barnala

Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences university’s Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Barnala organized a Kisan Mela on 'Resource Conservation for Sustainable Farming' under crop residue management project at Satyam farm in guidance of Dr. P.S. Tanwar, Associate Director, KVK, Barnala. Dr Harish Kumar Verma, Director Extension Education, GADVASU, Ludhiana and Dr. Rajbir Singh, Director, ICAR-ATRAI, Zone-1, Ludhiana were the chief guests of this event. Dr Tanwar welcomed all the distinguished guests, scientist from GADVASU and PAU, farmers, farm women, delegates from government and private sector. He highlighted the work done by the KVK for the welfare of the farmers. Dr. Tanwar also informed about the training programmes are being conducted by KVK, Barnala on pig, goat, poultry, fish farming, bee-keeping and mushroom production etc. for the skill development of rural youth.

Dr H.K. Verma, stressed upon the diversification in the agri-farming sector and he also urged the farmers to not burn the paddy straw and motivated to use for other purposes. Dr Verma also shared his views on the doubling of the farmer’s income through livestock production and value addition of milk and meat products. He also explained the role of timely vaccination in animals, artificial insemination, clean milk production techniques and stall feeding. Dr Rajbir Singh expressed his views on the reduction of input cost for more benefit and role of skill oriented training programmes for upliftment of the economy of the rural youth and farmers. He also explained the District Agro Metrological Unit (DAMU) project which is given to KVK, Barnala by ICAR-New Delhi for the forecast of prevalent weather conditions in Barnala District. He also added that ARYA project was also sanctioned to KVK, Barnala. He gave awards to progressive farmers and farm women, innovative farmers and self help groups (SHG) in different field of agriculture and allied sectors.  The first, second and third prize was given to Y.S. School Group of Institute, Virbac, Animal Health India Pvt. Ltd and Sh. Gurdeep Singh, a successful poultry farmer among the stall competition, respectively. Dr Rajbir Singh appreciated the work done by KVK, Barnala for farming community of the district. A Kisan gosthi was arranged in Kisan mela and scientist from GADVASU and PAU, Ludhiana delivered lectures on livestock rearing and insect-pest and paddy straw management. Dr. K.S. Matharu, Assistant Professor (Plant Protection) extended vote of thanks to the Chief Guests of this event, Dr S.S. Maan, Deputy Director, Dept. of Animal Husbandry, Barnala, Sh Manavpreet Singh, DDM, NABARD, Dr H.S. Sidhu, progressive farmers and farm women for gracing this occasion.
