KVK Tarn Taran organizes Vocational Training Programme on ‘Scientific Goat Farming’ at village Dhunda, Chohla Sahib

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana, Booh, Tarn Taran organized a five day ‘Off-Campus’ Vocational Training Programme on ‘Scientific Goat Farming’ at village Dhunda, Chohla Sahib. Forty farmers, rural youths and farm women of Dhunda and adjoining villages has participated in the training course. Scientific knowledge on various aspects of goat farming was devised in this training for skill development and self entrepreneurship of farmers for economic upliftment.
Speaking on the inaugural session of the training programme, Dr Balwinder Kumar, Deputy Director (Training), Krishi Vigyan Kendra, stressed upon the development of skill in the rural population of the Punjab. Such type of trainings helps farmers, farm women, and rural youth in developing the agricultural entrepreneurship through livestock diversification and overall economic development of poor farmers. Dr Balwinder Kumar also highlighted various facilities developed by GADVASU and KVK. Course highlights included the lectures from experts and practical training through exposure visit to the University Goat Farm at university campus, Ludhiana. Dr. HK Verma, Director Extension Education, GADVASU, Ludhiana also interacted with the farmers and emphasized upon adoption of goat farming for better livelihood. Dr Sikh Tejinder, Associate Professor (Livestock Production) told the farmers about the goat breeds, their housing management and feed requirement. Sh. Navjot Singh, Assistant Professor (Agronomy) provided technical guidance on various aspects of fodder production and silage making. Experts from GADVASU Dr Sandeep Kaswan, Asstt. Professor (LP) and Dr Mandeep Singla and KVK experts Dr Anil Kumar, Dr Bhanu Prakash, Mrs. Piverjeet Kaur Dhillon and Mr. Nirmal Singh also delivered their lectures on assigned topics and discussed different aspects related goat farming.
    Participant farmers appreciated the efforts of KVK for providing them training related to goat farming. Sh. Navjot Singh proposed the vote of thanks at the valedictory function and thanked the trainees and visiting guests and faculty for the efforts to make this Off-Campus training programme a success.
