KVK, Tarn Taran organized ‘WORLD FISHERIES DAY’

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana, Tarn Taran organized World Fisheries Day programme on November, 21 at border village Mari kamboke. Seventeen (17) fish farming community members belonging to Mari kamboke and adjoining villages of Distt. Tarn Taran have been participated in programme.  
Speaking on the inaugural session of the programme, Dr. Balwinder Kumar, Deputy Director (Training) stressed upon the importance of fisheries and World Fisheries Day is celebrated around the world on November 21 to highlight the importance of maintaining the world’s fisheries. In many nations, fish provide one of the most easily accessible and affordable sources of animal protein. Dr. Kumar suggested to farmers to improve the communication between fishermen community and the scientific community through exchange of knowledge and science. Further he also highlighted various facilities developed and provided by GADVASU and KVK.
Dr Bhanu Prakash. Ch, Assistant professor (Fisheries) highlighted the importance of fisheries and world fisheries day celebrations serve as a reminder that we must focus on changing the way the world manages global fisheries to ensure sustainable stocks and healthy oceans ecosystem and the world fisheries day helps in highlighting the critical importance to human lives of water and the lives it sustains both in and out of water. Further he also explain that more than two third of the world's fisheries have been overfished, and many more are in a state of decline because of loss of habitat, pollution and global warming.
Sh. Navjot Singh Brar, Assistant professor (Agronomy) explained that there is urgent need to protect, defend and strengthen the communities that depend on the fishery for their livelihood. Further he emphasized on food security in both locally and worldwide through sustaining fish stocks for the future by reserving fish for human food.
Dr Bhanu Prakash. Ch, Assistant professor (Fisheries) proposed the vote of thanks and thanked to the farmers and faculty for their support to make this programme success.
