Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, (GADVASU) Ludhiana organized an eight days Model Training Course (MTC) “Women Empowerment through 
Dairy Preneurship”. 21 Veterinary officers/Scientist including 18 female veterinarians from six states viz: Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Maharastra, Madhya Pradesh & Punjab participated in the training program. The training was sponsored by Directorate of Extension Education (DOE), Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India and organized by the Directorate of Extension Education. Dr. H.K. Verma, Director of Extension Education and Course Director of the Program, interacted with the participants and said that women are the backbone of the dairy farming and constitute 70% of the workforce. He further stated that, farm women are
involved in dairy farm operations right from cleaning, feeding, milking and identification of sick and estrus animals but participation in extension activities is very low. So it becomes important to empower them with correct management practices. This program has provided knowledge and practical information to the veterinarians involved in extension activities in rural areas about the latest technologies for maintaining the healthy animals to get better productivity. The training program was inaugurated by Dr J.P.S. Gill, Director Research, GADVASU and he highlighted the importance of rural women in dairy sector while Dr Satyavan Rampal, DSW-cum-Estate officer graced the valedictory function. Dr S K Kansal

GADVASU organized an another 240 hrs training program for ‘Small poultry farmers’ sponsored by Agriculture Skill council of India. Seventeen candidates from all over Punjab successfully completed this programme and are ready to start their poultry units at their respective places.
Dr. A.S. Nanda, Vice-Chancellor appreciated the efforts of Directorate of Extension Education to promote women empowerment through livestock-related entrepreneurial activities and Poultry farming and anticipated that the twin courses will go a long way to address the challenges faced by the farm women. Dr. Jaswinder Singh, Dr YS Jadoun & Dr. Bharti coordinated the training program and proposed the vote of thanks.
