Brief Introduction :
Dr. Meera D. Ansal, Senior Scientist (Fisheries) took over the charge of Head of Aquaculture, College of Fisheries, GADVASU, Ludhiana, in 2015 and is also holding additional charge of Head, Department of Fisheries Resource Management. She is actively involved in administration, teaching, research, extension and infrastructural development activities. She has guided 4 M.F.Sc. students and is teaching over 10 UG/PG courses for last 12 years. Presently, 4 M.F.Sc. and 2 Ph.D students are working under her guidance. She has worked under ICAR’s prestigious Niche Area of Excellence Project –‘Inland Aquaculture in Punjab’ besides 2 RKVY projects and 1 project of Punjab State Farmers Commission and has significant research contributions, with special reference to development of inland saline water aquaculture technologies for salt affected waste logged waste lands in south west districts of Punjab, formulation of low cost carp feeds with non conventional feed resources like duckweeds & Azolla, development of region specific Azolla culture technology for livestock feeding and recycling of waste water through duck weed based phyto-remediation technology. Presently, under an extra mural project of ICAR, she is developing extension tools for strengthening technological support to fish farmers of the State and under another RKVY project “Cost evaluation and benefit assessment of fish farming in selected districts of Punjab”, she is actively involved in data base generation with respect to small, medium and large fish farmers from different districts of the State. She has also developed herbal garden and is working on developing eco-friendly immuno-stimulating diets by utilizing medicinal herbs for health management on aquaculture. She has over 100 publications to her credit, including research papers, status/review articles, popular/extension articles, laboratory manual, training manuals, pamphlets etc. She has also authored a technical book on ‘‘Carp Culture’ for farmers and a University publication ‘Fisheries Development in Punjab – A road Map’. Being an active extension worker she has also conducted 6 training programs in fish farming for the fish farmers, unemployed youth and the entrepreneurs and has also served the Innovative Fish Farmers Association of Punjab as technical coordinator for more than 5 years. She is 'Fellow' of the Indian Ecological Society, Ludhiana and was also awarded with 'Best Success Story' award in an International Conference- Natural Resource Management: Ecological Perspectives, held at SKUAST-Jammu, 18-20 February, 2016, for her contribution in development of aquaculture in salt affected water logged waste lands in south west district of the State, under ICAR's Niche Area Excellence program (2010-2015). She is a life member of number of professional societies, referee of National/International journals and also have the honor of being in the screening panel of ASRB, ICAR, New Delhi.
