Vet Varsity conducts Farmers Training Programme on Processing and Value Addition of Meat and Egg Products

Department of Livestock Products Technology, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary And Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana has organized Indian Council of Agricultural Research, Govt of India sponsored farmer’s training programme of 6 days from 25-30 March, 2016 on ‘Processing and Value Addition of meat and egg products’. Dr. Manish Chatli HoD said that this training programme was covered under the Prime Minister’s initiatives of Skill Development Programme. The training programme was attended by 30 farmers from different districts of Punjab. In training programme 25 lectures-cum-practical demonstrations were delivered which included hand-on-training on the hygienic slaughtering and processing of poultry birds, preparation of cut-up-parts of poultry, packaging and preservation techniques. The hands-on-training for the preparation and packaging techniques for different value added meat products such as meat balls/koftas, meat patties, sausages, pickle, meat cutlets, meat sausages etc. were also conducted. The marketing tips for these products were also discussed by experts from PAU Business School. The information was also shared on project formulation for seeking loans from banks, Government schemes, licencing programmes, standards and labelling of the food products by officials from NABARD bank and subject matter specialists. The participants were also provided with the “Hygiene kit” which included apron, gloves, mouth and head gear etc., along with “Do’s and Don’t instructions”. Department has also published Training manual which was released by the Chief Guest of valedictory & certificate distribution function, Dr S.N.S. Randhawa, Director Research, GADVASU. On this occasion, Dr Randhawa asserted the farmers to become entrepreneur for better returns of their produce. Food Processing is a ‘sun-rise’ industry which will not only improve their income but also provide safe, hygienic, wholesome food for the consumer.  Dr Chatli, Course Director quoted that this training programme provide them basic knowledge about the processing and packaging techniques. The participants are always welcome at GADVASU for technical know-how as per their requirement to become successful entrepreneur. Dr Nitin Mehta acted as course coordinator, whereas Dr Pavan and O.P.Malav acted as co-course coordinator for this training programme.
