Dr. Inderjeet Singh, a distinguished researcher, academician and educational administrator is heading the Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana as Vice-Chancellor since June 2020. Earlier, Dr. Singh worked as Director of Animal Husbandry Department, Punjab, for over one and a half years. He has a vast and dedicated experience of over three decades in the field of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry Sector. He is popularly known as the 'Murrah Man' for his research and expertise in breeding and management of Murrah buffalo, which is widely reared by farmers in Punjab and Haryana.
Dr. Singh did his Ph.D. in Animal Reproduction from University of Liverpool, United Kingdom. He worked in different capacities at CCSHAU and ICAR-Central Institute for Research on Buffaloes (CIRB), Hisar (Haryana) and served as the Director of CIRB for over five and a half years. Dr. Singh is Fellow of many scientific societies and has many feathers in his cap in form of scientific awards and recognitions. He is ‘Executive Officer, Asia, International Buffalo Federation (IBF)’, ‘Member, Standing Committee, IBF’, recipient of ‘Distinguished Scientist Award by the Indian Society for Buffalo Development’, ‘Fellow National Academy of Veterinary Sciences’, ‘Fellow, National Academy of Dairy Sciences (India)’ and ‘Fellow of ISSAR’, etc. He is the incumbent President of Indian Society for Buffalo Development. He has been the President, Vice-President as well as the General Secretary of the Asian Buffalo Association during various periods. He has visited more than 12 countries on various academic and research assignment(s).
Dr. Singh is the member of National Advisory Committee for Animal Husbandry and Dairying Sector. He has served on various committees of the Govt. of India, Department of Biotechnology, Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying and ICAR, besides on committees of Livestock Development Board(s) and Animal Husbandry Department(s) for implementation of central schemes and new initiatives like National Livestock Mission in the states of Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, Punjab and Haryana.
