
The Centre for One Health, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana, organized a two-day capacity building training program on “Improving Animal Health Practices of Veterinarians to Contain Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) and Promote One Health”. The training was conducted for veterinary officers working under the Department of Animal Husbandry, Government of Punjab, under a project funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Zenex, India.
Welcoming the participants, Dr. Jasbir Singh Bedi, Director, Centre for One Health, emphasized that veterinary professionals play a crucial role in safeguarding animals as well as public health. Highlighting the growing global concern of AMR, he stressed the need for the judicious and responsible use of antibiotics in animals to prevent the emergence and spread of resistant pathogens that can affect both animals and humans. Dr. Deepali Kalambhe, Organizing Secretary, sensitized the participants about the major zoonotic diseases that are transmitted from animals to humans and discussed their prevention and control strategies. She emphasized the role of early detection,
surveillance, and awareness among veterinary professionals in minimizing the risk of zoonotic disease transmission.
Experts delivered informative lectures covering a range of important topics including alternatives to antibiotics, prevention of zoonotic diseases, vaccination strategies, good farm management practices, clean milk production, farm hygiene, biosecurity measures, and animal nutrition and welfare.
Dr. J. P. S. Gill, Vice Chancellor graced the valedictory session and appreciated the efforts of the Centre for One Health in organizing such capacity-building programs. Dr. Gill emphasized that continuous education, awareness, and field-level implementation of scientific practices are key tools in addressing emerging global health challenges and ensuring sustainable livestock production and public health protection.
