Vet Varsity Organises Womens Health and Cancer Awareness Programme

The Directorate of Students’ Welfare, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University , Ludhiana, in collaboration with the Guru Gobind Singh Study Circle , GADVASU Unit and Can Fight Cancer (CFC) Society, Ludhiana, organised a one-day awareness programme-cum-interactive session on Women’s Health and Cancer Awareness to promote awareness about cancer prevention, early detection and palliative care. The programme witnessed the participation of approximately 150 girl students, female faculty members and staff.
Dr. J.P.S. Gill, Vice-Chancellor and his better half Mrs. Pawanjeet Kaur Gill graced the occasion as Chief Guests. Dr. Gill emphasised the importance of preventive healthcare, cancer awareness and early detection. He appreciated the collaborative efforts of the organisers and medical experts in promoting women’s health and well-being.
During the technical sessions, Dr. Kanupriya Jain, Gynaecologist, Cloudnine Hospital, Ludhiana, delivered an informative talk on “Common Cancers in Women – Prevention and Early Detection,” highlighting the importance of awareness and timely medical intervention. Dr. Kunal Jain, Oncologist, DMC&H, Ludhiana, discussed palliative care and its significance in improving the quality of life of cancer patients. Mr. Jagjit Sood, Secretary, CFC Society, introduced the organisation, its activities and services for supporting patients during the challenging stages of cancer.
Mrs. Pawanjeet Kaur Gill shared first-hand experience with cancer and the strength of the family in overcoming its effects. She further emphasised the importance of awareness and collective efforts in promoting women’s health and well-being. She encouraged women to prioritise their health, seek timely medical advice and actively participate in awareness initiatives.
Dr. Jaspal Singh Hundal, Director of Students' Welfare, stated that women's health is a vital aspect of society, as the smooth functioning of family and social life depends on their well-being. He added that the Veterinary University recognizes this importance and, therefore, undertakes such initiatives.
The programme was coordinated through the combined efforts of Dr. Vaneet Inder Kaur, Dr. Nidhi Sharma and Dr. Sarabjeet Kaur. The initiative reflected the university’s commitment to promoting health awareness, social responsibility and the overall well-being of its students and staff.
