Vet Varsity starts Tree Plantation Drive with a message of Green Environment

Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) Ludhiana's Landscaping wing organized Tree Plantation Drive in campus. Tree plantation drive was inaugurated by Dr. Inderjeet Singh, Vice Chancellor, GADVASU by planting saplings in front of College of Animal Biotechnology. Plantation work was carried out in and around Centre for One Health, Scientist Home, Herbal garden and university hostels. This year's plantation drive was organized with the theme “Har Medh Par Ped” as part of celebration of India@75 – Bharat ka Amrut Mahotsav. Different types of plants viz; trees Terminalia, Koelreuteria /Golden rain tree, Pilkhan/Ficus virens, Amaltas, Amla  etc., ornamental trees/plants Fox tail palm, Bismarckia plam, Phoenix Palm, Juniper golden etc., Fruit trees Mango, Jamun  etc. and shrub plants/small trees Chandani, Lantana, Raat ki rani, Bamboo etc. were  planted. 

All the preventive measures related to Covid-19 Pandemic were taken while carrying out plantation work. All the university officers planted one tree each. Dr. Y. S. Malik, Dean College of Animal Biotechnology and entire faculty of the college actively participated in the plantation drive . Dr. Inderjeet Singh appreciated the plantation drive and highlighted the importance of planting trees to protect our nature. Plantation work carried out last year was reviewed and it was ensured that all the planted saplings were protected.

Dr. Satyavan Rampal, Director Students' Welfare cum EO congratulated the team of landscape wing Dr. M. S. Bal, Sh. Joginder Singh & other workers for organizing plantation drive in university campus. Dr. M. S. Bal, Landscaping In-Charge, told that during this monsoon season landscaping wing will plant approximately 500 trees (including fruit trees) and more than 1000 ornamental shrubs. Dr. Rampal thanked all the Officers, faculty, staff members for participation in plantation drive.
