Vet Varsity Hosts Brainstorming Session on “Ensuring Milk Quality for Community Health”

The Directorate of Extension Education, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana convened a high-level brainstorming session on “Ensuring Milk Quality for Community Health” to deliberate on emerging challenges and strategic pathways for producing safe, high-quality milk.
Dr. J.P.S. Gill, Vice-Chancellor, underscored that milk quality is intrinsically linked to public health, consumer confidence and the long-term sustainability of the dairy sector. He emphasized the urgent need for robust quality assurance systems and value-oriented supply chains. He said that we have achieved the quantity but now it’s time to improve the quality of the produce. He underlined the role of value addition for better income.
Dr. Ravinder Singh Grewal, Director of Extension Education, highlighted that the session aimed to sensitize farmers, entrepreneurs and stakeholders to global milk quality benchmarks, export imperatives and their ramifications for community health. He called for synergistic engagement among academia, industry and field functionaries.
Expert deliberations were delivered by eminent speakers. Dr. Inderpreet Kaur, discussed global milk standards, export dynamics and Punjab’s roadmap; Dr. Sangeeta Girdhar, highlighted the linkage between milk quality and human health; Er. Pankaj Navani, an Incubate of varsity and working on milk quality, shared insights on building credible milk pools from capable farms of Punjab; Dr. J. S. Bedi, deliberated on mycotoxin and drug residues in milk; and Dr. J. S. Hundal, emphasized the role of feed and fodder management in maintaining milk quality.
Dr. R S Sethi, Dean, College of Animal Biotechnology coordinated the panel discussion. Dr. PS  Walia, Director Animal Husbandry, Punjab, Dr. MS Bhullar, Director Extension PAU, Mr. Ashok Kumar, President All Feed Millers Association, Mr, Munish Sharma,  Progressive Dairy Farmers Association and Mr. Nicholas Tomkins, COO, Front Runner Farm were the panelists. In the panel discussion participants raised issues of adulteration, marketing challenges, quality control and field problems of feed, fodder and silage. 
Dr. Parminder Singh, Additional Director of Extension Education, extended vote of thanks for all the stakeholders and participants.
