Shri Jatindra Nath Swain, IAS Secretary, Department of Fisheries (DOF), Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Government of India (GOI) inaugurated the Capacity Building Resource Centre for Intensive Aquaculture Technologies developed at Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), under Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY), in the presence of Shri Sagar Mehra, Joint Secretary, DOF, Dr. Inderjeet Singh, Vice Chancellor GADVASU, Sh. Jasvir Singh, Director and Warden Fisheries, Punjab and university Officers. The said Centre, established with a total budget of Rs. 139.05 lakhs, will serve as a prospective resource for demonstration, capacity building and innovative R&D for up scaling the intensive aquaculture technologies like recirculatory aquaculture and biofloc based aquaculture systems as per regional needs and climate, informed Dr. Inderjeet Singh, Vice Chancellor GADVASU. ction targets for food security and economic growth of the nation, he added.
Sh. Sagar Mehra, Joint Secretary, DOF briefed that GADVASU had been the first university to receive 100% funding for the said project under PMMSY- Central
Sector Scheme and the developed Centre is being visualized as a catalyst to boost Blue Revolution in the region, in special reference to enthusiastic youth seeking self-reliance.
Extending warm compliments and congratulations to the university on establishing the Centre successfully, Shri Jatindra Nath Swain, Secretary, DOF expressed that aspiring entrepreneurs of the region, looking forward to adopting new /advanced technologies, will be benefitted with the said facility offering hands on training and incubation opportunities to the stakeholders. The DOF, GOI is encouraging development of recirculatory and biofloc aquaculture systems in India, under the Prime Ministers Flagship Scheme PMMSY, with major focus on capacity building and scientific innovations, he added.
On the said occasion, veterinary clinics, livestock farms, exhibition by various colleges of GADVASU and departments of Food Science and Technology;
Soil Sciences and Soil and Water Engineering in PAU were also vis
ited by the DOF delegation.
The DOF delegation also interacted with the fish and shrimp farmers of the state to address their concerns and requirements, Farmers were persuaded to make FPOs and Cooperatives to curtail seed, feed, marketing and processing related challenges. Two young professional degree holder entrepreneurs, Mr. Khushwant Singh (M.F.Sc) and Mr. Gurwinder Singh (M.V.Sc.), who started shrimp farming after completing their post-graduation from the university, were honored also honored by the Secretary, DOF.
