GADVASU organizes second training on Scientific Goat farming within a month
Witnessing fascination towards Goat Farming Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension Education, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana organized second Specialized Training on Goat farming from 1-5 June, 2015 within a month. Earlier a training on goat farming concluded at GADVASU campus on 29 May 2015 in which 87 farmers were trained in techniques of scientific rearing of goats. Dr H.K. Verma, Director of Extension Education, GADVASU said that university is organizing various trainings on livestock farming on regular basis viz dairy farming, poultry farming, piggery farming and many other tailor made courses as per demand. He further added that changing life style and eatery habits, people have started diversifying from the traditional patterns of livestock rearing and after getting such training from the university, the unemployed youth can start their own enterprise, which on one hand can provide the needed employment and on the other hand bring diversification in agriculture.Dr MP Gupta, Head, Department of Veterinary Extension Education and Course Director added that trainees have been given knowledge about housing, nutrition and feeding management practices. Apart from these issues, they have also been trained to handle the new born kids and methods of weaning, care and management of new born have also been taught to them. Participants were also been given training on the value addition of the goat byproducts. Dr JS Hundal, course coordinator, informed that there were 36 farmers including three women from all over Punjab and its neighboring states participated in the training and they learnt all the new techniques enthusiastically. Dr Navdeep Singh Technical coordinator of training added that in the current training the farmers showed great interest in learning new technicalities of goat farming. A great zeal was quiet visible from their queries.
