organized Pakhwara on ‘mass awareness against residue burning’ during at different villages and Schools of district Tarn Taran. The faculty members of the KVK involved actively in different activities. Campaigning was carried out at village Booh Havelian, Dader Sahib, Mathar Mathra Bhagi, Algo Khurd, Basarke, Harike and at Govt. Schools.
At different villages, awareness regarding adverse impact of wheat stubble burning on soil and environment vis a vis human health were discussed. Farmers were motivated for the incorporation residue in the soil, highlighting its beneficial effects on soil properties including increase in organic matter levels and beneficial soil microbial population. Awareness was also created on above aspect by the scientists’ involvement through delivering lectures. At village Booh Havelian, farmers’ day was organised against residue burning. The adverse impacts induced due to residue burning were discussed with farmers. Scientist emphasised on ploughing of residue in the soil.
At village Algo Khurd, lectures on residue management were organised. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Balwinder Kumar, Deputy Director (Training), KVK, Booh, Tarn Taran welcomed farmers for the programme and make a appeal against residue burning. Dr Kumar highlighted management of residue through straw 
reaper and also suggested that incorporation residue in soil recycle essential nutrients to the soil. It will further enhance the soil fertility and increase organic carbon levels in the soil, further will increase the crop yield of succeeding crop. Dr Anil Kumar, Asstt. Professor (Soil Science) suggested that recycling of wheat stubble in the soil improve soil structure which in turn enhance water holding capacity of the soil, improve water permeability and lead to aggregate formation. Dr Navjot Singh, Asstt. Professor (Agronomy) highlighted that burning of wheat stubble induced harmful green house gases that not only affect environment but also human and animal health. He further highlighted residue role in organic farming.
A programme on residue was also organised in Govt. Sen Sec School, Harike Pattan. Lectures on residue burning were organised for 10+1 and +2 students. Awareness was created regarding its bad impact on human and animal health. Beside, above impacts residue burning also induces green house gases and increases the temperature of the globe. On this occasion Principal of School Mrs. Varinder Kaur, Staff members Mrs Ranjit Kaur, Mr. Sukhwant Singh and Kulwinder Kaur were also present.
