KVK, Mohali organize harvest field day on wheat

KVK, SAS Nagar (Mohali) organized harvest field day on wheat sown after incorporating rice residue in village Dussarna. Under supervision of KVK team of scientists, harvesting of front line demonstration plot of wheat variety Unnat PBW 343 has been carried out. On this occasion, Dr. Yashwant Singh, Deputy Director, KVK, Mohali created awareness among the farmers about harmful effects of burning wheat straw. He further emphasized on maximum utilization of wheat straw as animal feed and shared his expertise with the farmers. Dr. Priyanka Suryavanshi, Asssiatnt Professor (Agronomy) made an urgent appeal to farmers not to burn wheat residue as it not only pollutes our environment but also damage soil microflora and microfauna and affects soil fertility and water holding capacity.  Wheat straw burning can increase irrigation demand tremendously in paddy crop. Dr. Munish Sharma and Dr. Vikas Phulia were also present on this occasion. Farmers also took an oath not to burn residue of any crop.
