Awareness camp under Jal Shakti Abhiyan organized by KVK, S.A.S. Nagar
A farmer awareness camp under Jal Shakti Abhiyan was held at Rattangarh village in Mohali district on 18th July, 2019. The programme was focused on water conservation and its judicious utilization. While interacting with the farmers, Dr. Priyanka Suryavanshi, Assistant Professor (Agronomy) motivated farmers to conserve water both in fields and household in order to make it a habit to save water. She urged the farmers to follow farming methods that requires less usage of water for irrigation and gives higher yield. Growing less water demanding crops like maize and kharif season pulses instead of paddy, short duration paddy varieties, methods like drip irrigation, furrow irrigation raised bed system and direct sowing of paddy ensure that the crops get water as per requirement only, she further added. She also encouraged farmers to avoid water wastage at household level. She called upon people to refrain from running taps while brushing teeth, use buckets and not pipes to wash floors and cars, reuse the waste water from RO plant for purpose of cleaning or washing utensils or watering kitchen garden etc. Total seventeen farmers participated in this camp. Literature in Punjabi language (Paani Bachao, Zindagi Bachao) was also distributed to create awareness among masses.
