Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Mohali of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University Ludhiana organized 5 days vocational training on “Protected Cultivation” of Vegetable and flower crops at Village Akalgarh of Distt S.A. S. Nagar (Mohali). The training programme was organized under the guidance of Dr H.K Verma (Director Extension Education) and Dr Yashwant Singh (Deputy Director Training). Around 40 farmers, farm women and rural youth took part in this training programme.
Dr Munish Sharma, Assistant Professor Horticulture (Training Incharge) delivered lecture and practical exposure on various techniques of growing various vegetable and flowers under protected environment. He discussed about various structures of protected cultivation, glazing material, irrigation management, management practices, storage and marketing of produce. He discussed about various problems related with cultivation and shared their solutions. Dr Harmeet Kaur lectured on various diseases and pests of horticulture crops along with their solutions. Dr Parul Gupta expressed knowledge on processing of vegetables and value addition of flower crops. Dr Parminder Singh told farmers about various weed management practices and cultivation of crops under poly tunnels. Village Sarpanch Mrs Narinder Kaur along with farmers Sukhminder Singh, Najar Singh and Balbir Singh shared their experiences with the participants and thanked KVK faculty for this training programme. On the last day of training certificates and literature was distributed to farmers.
