Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University’s Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Barnala organized a five
day vocational training under RKVY on Integrated Farming System. Dr. Prahalad Singh Tanwar, Associate Director (Training), KVK, Barnala told that a total of 22 rural youth and farmers from village mod maksutha of Barnala district were participated in the training programme. He said that KVK is implementing a number of programs for farmers and farmers may get benefit by these programs. He also emphasized that farmer can be utilized their own resources in better way by adopting integrated farming system and may get extra income for their livelihood.
Sh. Khushvir Singh, Assistant Professor (Fisheries), KVK, Barnala, Course-Coordinator of the training shared knowledge on different types of fishes, breeding & rearing of fishes, their integration with agriculture and livestock farming systems for efficient recycling of waste, various diseases and their control, seasonal management, preparation of fish feed and management of fish pond. He also explained about ornamental fish culture, aquarium fabrication, decoration and management of fish aquarium in detailed.
Dr. Kamaldeep Singh Matharu, Assistant Professor (Plant Protection) explained the life cycle of honey bees, seasonal management, queen bee rearing and management of insect-pest and diseases of honey bees. Dr. Harjot Singh, Assistant Professor (Horticulture) delivered lecture on production of different kinds of mashrooms like dhingri, button, paddy straw and shitake.
Dr. Surender Singh, Assistant Professor (Livestock Production Management) explained about the backyard poultry farming and pig farming. Dr. Surendra Singh, Assistant Professor (Agronomy) gave lecture on production and utilization of vermi-compost for better production and for organic farming.
An exposure visit was arranged for the trainees at Pashu Palan Mela at Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana.
