Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Tarn Taran has celebrated ‘Samagra Swachhta Diwas’ on Sept 24, 2017 at Village Kirowal, Tehasil Patti District Tarn Taran. KVK Scientists interacted with resource poor families and discussed on Swachhta aspects. Nambardar of the village told that village Kirtowal has about 140 families, out of which 65% families belong to general category and rest of 35% families belong to SC category. The Nambardar of village told that about 40% families of the village don’t have any toilet facilities. The KVK Scientists created awareness on Swachhta by contacting individual families and interacted with about 20 general and SC families. The village people has been awared for maintaining proper sanitation around their houses and were guided to utilize kitchen waste water for growing kitchen gardening. Faculty member spread the awareness about water borne diseases, cleanliness of house and surroundings, disease spread from unhygienic conditions. Maintenance of proper sanitation inside and outside house prevent number of diseases like Malaria, Chikengunya, etc. While interaction, villages has raised lot of issues such as lacking of drainage/sewerage facilities, problem of garbage dumping. Villagers stressed upon developing underground pipeline/sewerage system for the drainage of bathroom/kitchen wastes, so that families having no land may divert kitchen waste water to the drainage system. They also told that the water flow over open ‘Nallies’ (channels) and blockage of these channels cause lot of problems in the village. The KVK experts interacted with resident of village and urged them to create proper sanitation facility in the village to develop healthy and good ambience of the environment. Villagers thanked KVK staff for creating awareness about the Swachhta and promised to clean their surrounding for creating good environment.
