A weekly fair was organised by “HAQ SACH" Horse Association at Maur Mandi, Bathinda under the president ship of Baljeet Singh Virk and Mandeep Singh (Gen. Sect.). A team of experts from Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana participated in the fair and delivered the lectures on general Horse care, breed characters, prevention and control of diseases, reproductive problems, surgical measures and post-operative care, presentation of horses at fair, available extension literature and services at university and various other lectures related to local problems and observations. After the completion of lecture section, a section of question/answer was organised so that the local farmers can interact with the experts of GADVASU, Ludhiana. An impressive exhibition of the GADVASU was put up in the fair for showcasing the facilities, inputs, literature, technologies etc of the Vet Varsity. Team has also earmarked issues related with keeping of horses in the state. As per the feedback and the strong demand from the horse farmers/Association, GADVASU is planning to handhold these farmers for proliferating the horse farming in the state.
Dr. H. K. Verma, Director Extension Education, GADVASU said that university is always ready to back the progressive farmers and their associations and such fairs/exhibitions on horses/equines should be organise to popularize the horse farming in the state. It is pertinent to mention that GADVASU, Ludhiana has an excellent facility for the horses and on average 5-6 sick horses from far-flung areas of North India is coming for treatment and surgeries as revealed by Dr. Ashwani Kumar Sharma, Professor, Veterinary Medicine, GADVASU, Ludhiana.
