Zonal Project Director inspected the Happy Seeder sown wheat of farmers in Tarn Taran

Dr Rajbir Singh, Zonal Project Director, ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Zone-1, Ludhiana visited KVK Tarn Taran to inspect the wheat crop sown with happy seeder at farmers fields in different adopted villages by KVK in district Tarn Taran. Dr. Balwinder Kumar, Deputy Director, KVK Tarn Taran apprised him about the crop residue management adopted villages in Tarn Taran district by KVK. Dr Singh along with KVK team visited village Thattian Khurd, Burj Deva Singh, Burj Poohla, Kirtowal, Narli, Wan Tara Singh, Assal Uttar and Kot Budda and interacted with the farmers to know their experiences about happy seeder sown wheat. Farmers shared their views about different crop residue management implements provided by KVK Tarn Taran with Dr. Singh. Farmers told that KVK guided them about how to manage paddy straw and sow wheat crop without burning paddy straw. At this time, germination and growth of wheat crop is very good and they saved lot of expenditure on labour, diesel and other inputs with adoption of conservation agriculture techniques and they expect good yield of wheat. Dr Rajbir Singh also distributed Soil health cards and water testing reports analysed at KVK lab to the farmers of border village Wan Tara Singh. Dr Navjot Singh Brar said that these soil and water samples were collected by KVK team last month and after testing these samples the reports with recommendations distributed to the farmers to ensure judicious use of fertiliser. Dr Balwinder Kumar said that in current Rabi season KVK team visited more than 100 villages of district to guide farmers regarding In-situ management of paddy straw and brought more than 5000 acre area under wheat sown with happy seeder in district, where farmers have not burnt paddy straw this year. Dr. Rajbir Singh appreciated efforts of KVK Tarn Taran for helping border village farmers to adopt conservation agriculture for saving the environment from deterioration.
