Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana organized an awareness camp to educate about livestock
infertility at village Qila Raipur. It was sponsored by ICAR under the Farmer FIRST project. The initiative aimed to address reproductive health issues in dairy animals and enhance awareness among local farmers. The camp was organised in continuity with the previous camps at Kila Raipur.
In order to combat the problem of infertility among the productive dairy animals of the village, the camp was planned under the guidance of Dr. Ravinder Singh Grewal, Director of Extension Education-cum-Nodal Officer of Farmer FIRST Project and Dr. Parminder Singh, Principal Investigator (PI) of the Project. The camp was coordinated by Dr. Rajesh Kasrija, Dr. Bilawal Singh, CoPIs alongwith Dr. Gurpreet Kour Tulla. In the camp dairy animals including cattle and buffaloes were treated for infertility.
Dr. Rajesh Kasrija emphasized the economic impact of infertility, highlighting losses due to decreased milk production, delayed calving, and reduced productive lifespan of dairy animals. He also emphasized on the management of heat stress in dairy animals and its potential impact on reducing reproductive efficiency. Dr. Bilawal Singh advised farmers on reproductive management practices, particularly focusing on mitigating heat stress during summer months to prevent infertility issues.
The camp also served as an educational platform, providing farmers with literature on reproductive health management and fostering awareness about the causes and prevention of infertility in dairy animals. This initiative reflects Varsity's commitment to improving livestock health and supporting the rural farming community through targeted interventions and knowledge dissemination.
