
Commemoration Week by Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana entered into second phase on National Fish
Farmers Day (10 th July) to felicitate the dedicated fish farmers, fishers and fish traders, contributing to sustainable growth of the fish value chain at level. A scientists-farmers-students-meet was organized at the fish farm of S. Gurcharan Singh in village Dolon Kala of district Ludhiana. Scientists and graduating fisheries professionals from College of Fisheries interacted with the fish farmers, including women enthusiasts, who were honored for their ro
le in breeding, production and marketing of fish in the State. The farmers were sensitized about university capacity building programs and utility services for fish farming. Experienced fish farmers shared inspiring success stories with the budding fisheries professionals.
Special issue of university monthly extension magazine Vigiyanak Pashu Palan, dedicated to National Fish Farmers Day with informative extension articles on fisheries, was also distributed among the farmers. President and members of university linked Innovative Fish Farmers Association (IFFA) of Punjab released fish seed in the pond, commemorating successful breeding of fish on 10 th July in 1957, which lead to mass breeding of fish in captivity and subsequently Blue Revolution, rising India to the top as second largest fish producer of the world with invaluable contribution of fish farmers.
