Vet Varsity Scientist interacted on Heat Wave Risk Reduction and One Health

Dr. Jasbir Singh Bedi, Director, Centre for One Health, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana, delivered two expert lectures on heats stress in livestock and one health framework during a three-day training programme on “Heat Wave Risk Reduction & Resilience”. It was organised by the Environment & Climate Change Centre, Mahatma Gandhi State Institute of Public Administration, Chandigarh (MGSIPA), Government of Punjab. Dr. Bedi provided in-depth insights into integrated one health approaches, livestock heat stress mitigation, and climate-resilient farming practices. Dr. Bedi also detailed Punjab’s One Health initiatives, including the State levels Zoonoses Committee, Rabies Control Committee, and the National Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Policy, along with key Animal Husbandry schemes aimed at disease control, farmer support, and productivity enhancement. Emphasising that climate change, zoonotic diseases, and AMR are interconnected threats requiring coordinated action, Dr. Bedi stressed the need for collaboration between veterinary, medical, environmental, and administrative sectors. The programme was chaired by Incharge, Environment & Climate Change Centre, MGSIPA, who highlighted the importance of building the capacity of government officials and field personnel to address heat wave risks in a sustainable and coordinated manner. The workshop targeted administrators, technical officers, and field staff. The event underscored Punjab’s commitment to strengthening institutional capacity for climate resilience while advancing the One Health agenda in the state.
