
Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Booh, organized a one-day refresher course on “Advancements in
Paddy Straw Management & Cultivation of Rabi Crops” for the staff of the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and ATMA (Agricultural Technology Management Agency) of District Tarn Taran. The program aimed to equip field-level extension functionaries with the latest technological interventions in Crop Residue Management. The Deputy Director of KVK Booh inaugurated the event and presented a detailed overview of the major activities undertaken by the KVK during 2024–25, along with the action plan for 2025–26, focusing on residue management, crop diversification, and climate-resilient farming practices. Dr. Navjot Singh Brar delivered a detailed presentation highlighting recent advancements in paddy straw management, including in-situ management techniques and conservation agriculture tools like the Happy Seeder, Super Seeder, Smart Seeder & Surface Seeder. Dr. Prabhjinder Singh Maan gave an informative presentation on the utilization of Urea & Molasses treated paddy straw as animal feed and elaborated on scientific silage-making techniques, encouraging its adoption among dairy farmers to ensure year-round fodder availability. The Chief Agriculture Officer of the district Tarn Taran Dr. Tejbir Singh Bhangu attended the event as the Guest of Honor and appreciated the proactive initi
atives of KVK Booh, assuring that the Department of Agriculture would continue to work in close collaboration with the KVK to promote farmer-centric innovations and sustainable practices. Dr. R.S Grewal, Director of Extension Education emphasized the importance of continuous upskilling of field staff to ensure effective technology transfer and praised KVK Booh’s efforts in this direction.
Dr J.P.S Gill, Vice-Chancellor commended the KVK for its dynamic extension work and reaffirmed the university’s commitment to supporting grassroots-level agricultural development through training, research, and field engagement. The program concluded with an interactive discussion session, where participants exchanged field experiences and suggestions. Dr Navjot Singh Brar thanked all dignitaries, experts, and participants for their active involvement.
