
A five-day intensive hands-on training programme on “Value Addition of Milk and Milk Products” was successfully conducted at the College of Dairy and Food Science Technology, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana.
The programme was designed to equip farmers, rural youth and women entrepreneurs with practical skills for converting raw milk
into a variety of value-added products. The trainees were from different district of Punjab including 5 female dairy entrepreneurs. Participants received training in the preparation of paneer, ghee, curd, khoa, flavoured milk, indigenous milk sweets and mozzarella cheese. Sessions also focused on important aspects such as packaging, labeling, shelf-life enhancement, and marketing strategies.
The training programme was inaugurated by Dr. S. P.S. Ghuman, Dean of the College, who stressed that value addition in milk is crucial for increasing dairy farmers’ income and generating employment opportunities in rural areas. He highlighted the college’s role in translating scientific advancements into practical, field-level applications.
The programme was coordinated by Dr. Gopika Talwar, Dr. Venus Bansal and Dr. Shruti Chopra, who structured the training through a series of technical lectures and hands-on demonstrations.
The valedictory session was chaired by Dr. R. S. Grewal, Director of Extension Education, who motivated participants to use the acquired knowledge for entrepreneurship and self-reliance in dairy processing. He lauded their enthusiastic involvement and acknowledged the dedicated efforts of the organizing team, reiterating the university’s commitment to strengthening grassroots-level capacity building. Participants offered encouraging feedback, appreciating the hands-on demonstrations and expressing keen interest in adopting the skills in their own dairy enterprises. Certificates were awarded at the conclusion of the programme.
This training initiative aligns with university’s ongoing mission to promote sustainable and profitable dairy processing through effective technology transfer and capacity development.
