Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Tarn Taran of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, organised a group meeting of diversified group of progressive farmers of district Tarn Taran, Punjab belonging to dairy, 
fish, horticulture, pig and organic farming sector on at KVK Campus. The NABARD association representative S. Gursharan Singh participated in the meeting. Dr Balwinder Kumar, Deputy Director (T), KVK Tarn Taran welcomed all the participants at KVK and told about importance of formation of Farmers’ Producer Organization (FPO) of farmers of district Tarn Taran belonging to different sectors. Dr Kumar emphasised on the need of FPOs in present time and enlightened that it is not possible for the government to provide subsidy to individual farmer. So there is need to form FPOs of a group of farmers so that maximum number of farmers may get benefit from govt. Schemes. Dr Kumar also assured farmers for any assistance from KVK.
Gursharan Singh, NABARD association representative elaborated about
FPOs and its benefits. He told that farmers as producers are unable to realize the right value of their produce. The lack of awareness, less inclination towards technology adoption leads to under production against the optimal potential. Moreover, absence of adequate marketing infrastructure, middle man and lack of collective efforts leads to grabbing less marketing opportunities and earnings. Detailed information to start a FPO and its network involving farmers was discussed. By presenting different examples and a number of success stories of FPOs he convinced the farmers towards the formation of FPOs and to become member of FPOs. He also presented the example of FPOs running successful in district Gurdaspur & Amritsar. Farmers also clarified their queries regarding FPOs. Dr Anil Kumar, Assistant Professor, thanked NABARD association representative and all the progressive farmers for their participation in the meeting.
