A two day workshop on ‘Lab Forum India’ focusing on feed quality parameters and their 
testing using latest technology concluded today on 4 July 2019 at Department of Animal Nutrition, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University Ludhiana, in collaboration with FOSS India under the umbrella of ‘Project Monitoring Unit- DBT- Canine Research Centre (Nutritional and Processing Interventions for Developing Pet Foods).
Feed accounts for 70% of the total cost of livestock farming. It is imperative to provide the quality feed to fully exploit the genetic potential of animals, for which testing of nutritive value of various feed stuffs is essential. The second day of workshop exclusively focused on importance of feed quality in livestock sector. Dr APS Sethi deliberated on various parameters of feed quality, their level and testing procedure for estimation of aflatoxin which is harmful for both animals and human being. Further Dr Udeybir Singh demonstrated the importance of moisture in feed and feed ingredients which is important for storage. Quality of novel feed ingredients can be assessed in the lab for their potential to be used in ration was showcased by Dr RS Grewal and Dr JS Hundal. Dr JS Lamba has talked about the adulterants like urea and nitrate in feedstuffs.
Dr. Manju Wadhwa while proposing the vote of thanks to the participants 
as well to FOSS India team, highlighted that the department is regularly providing feed analytical services to check quality of feed for the farmers and allied sectors. Department is providing feed supplements like mineral mixture, uromin lick, bypass fat to ameliorate deficiency diseases prevalent in the state. Advisory services to the farmers on quality feed formulation for various livestock is given regularly. A total of 52 participants from GADVASU, PAU, KVKs, Reginal Research and Training centres, CIPHET attended the workshop and were quite satisfied with the ways and the zeal shown by various experts to demonstrate the various procedures.
