School students showed great interest in Vet Varsity during educational tour

More than hundred students from three different schools Govt. Girls Senior Secondary smart School, Mansuran (Ludhiana),Govt. Senior Secondary School Sayad Wala (Fazilka) and of Govt. Senior Secondary School Ramsara (Fazilka) of medical, non-medical and agriculture field along with 10 teaching staff visited Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana as an educational tour. Dr H K Verma, Director Extension Education introduced students about the university, facilities available and its importance to the livestock farmers. He also informed students about the colleges under the university, its admission procedure and encouraged them to get admission for their bright future. He informed that university produces veterinary doctors, dairy engineers, biotechnologists, fishery experts and veterinary pharmacists. Students queried about placement opportunities in these fields. Students visited goat and pig farms and were lectured about their economic importance to the farmers along with some management practices to be followed at the farm. Further they visited cattle and buffalo shed and milk parlour where they were introduced with the facilities available. They were also familiarized with various breeds of cattle and buffalo.

School students were taken to College of Fisheries and witnessed different species of fishes valuable to farmers for fish farming. Ornamental fishes were a great attraction to them. Other than farms they also visited university laboratories and showed keen interest in modern techniques and equipment used in research. They learned working of polymerized chain reaction (PCR) and its Applications. This educational tour was highly informative to the students. This tour programme was coordinated by Dr. Kulvinder Singh to various departments and laboratories of the university. School teaching staff accompanied with the students also valued the guidance and information provided and appreciated tour programme.
