Vet Varsity student bags prestigious overseas Visiting Doctoral Fellowship

An overseas visiting doctoral fellowship (OVDF) of 12 months has been awarded by the Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB), Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India to Ms. Priya Rawat, Ph.D student of Department of Aquaculture, College of Fisheries, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU). Under this competitive fellowship, Ms. Rawat will be joining Department of Animal Nutrition & Management, Faculty of Bioscience Engineering, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (Slu), Uppsala, Sweden for conducting part of her Ph.D research, with a monthly fellowship of US $ 2000, travel grant and medical insurance from DST. During the OVDF research training, Ms. Rawat will take up studies on health promoting potential of ginger in rainbow trout feed, in a comprehensive manner employing physiological, biochemical and transcriptomic approaches, under technical guidance of her major advisor at GADVASU, Dr. Vaneet Inder Kaur, Scientist (Fisheries)  and overseas guide Dr. Kartik Baruah, Associate Senior Lecturer, at Slu, Sweden. Further, DST will also sponsor visit of major advisor and overseas guide of Ms. Rawat to Slu (Sweden) and GADVASU (India), respectively for strengthening international ties for capacity building and training of students and faculty for enhanced professional competency.

Congratulating the student and her guide, Dr. Meera D. Ansal, Head, Department of Aquaculture, said that owing to increasing global concerns on food security, more attention is now being paid on developing organic interventions to boost animal health to check use of antibiotics and other harmful chemicals in livestock, poultry and fisheries. Applauding the outstanding achievement of the student, Dean of College of Fisheries, Dr. K.S. Sandhu said that it is an excellent international capacity building opportunity to upscale her professional skills for a brilliant career. Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Uppal, Dean Post Graduate Studies informed that meritorious PG/Ph.D. students of the university help in developing an effective alumni base across the globe for holistic development of livestock sector. Dr. A.S. Nanda, Vice Chancellor, GADVASU communicated that university is working hard to develop human resource of international standards to enhance their placement/professional competency, both at national and international levels. He wished good luck to the student for her future endeavour.
