KVK trained Farmers in sugarcane cultivation and jaggery making

KVK Tarn Taran in association with Department of Agriculture and farmers welfare, Tarn Taran organised two day training programme on “Scientific sugarcane cultivation and Jaggery making” under ATMA scheme to bring crop diversification in district and for promoting self-employment. On first day of training, Dr Navjot Singh Brar gave detailed information regarding scientific cultivation of Sugarcane. He discussed about the improved varieties, weed management, integrated nutrient management and insect-pest management in sugarcane.  Dr Balwinder Kumar, Deputy Director discussed about the importance of Jaggery making and procedure of application for FSSAI certification. He said that KVK is regularly organising these type of trainings to generate opportunities of self-employment in the district.   Chief Agriculture Officer Tarn Taran and Project Director ATMA Tarn Taran discussed about schemes of their departments regarding crop diversification and urged farmers to take maximum benefits of these schemes. On second day of training, an exposure visit of farmers was organised to Farm of S. Kashmir Singh Brar of village Kakoya in Kandi area of Hoshiarpur District, where farmers were practically trained for making of different types of Jaggery. S Kashmir Singh also gave them information about construction of advance type of Jaggery making unit. Another farmer of village S Amarjit Singh Brar shared his experience about the cultivation of sugarcane. Lieutenant Hargopal Singh of same village proposed vote of thanks. Farmers appreciated the efforts of KVK and ensure that in coming season, they will start cultivation of sugarcane for jaggery making.
