Krishi Vigyan Kendra, SAS Nagar (Mohali) of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University Ludhiana organized One month (240 hours) skill development training course on “Small Poultry Farmer”

at its campus under Ministry of skill development & entrepreneurship, Government of India. Twenty farmers/youth took part in this training programme from various parts of Punjab. Course Director cum Deputy Director, Dr Yashwant Singh and Course Coordinator, Dr. Shashi Pal, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, S.A.S. Nagar (Mohali) conducted this training programme. Dr Yashwant Singh motivated farmers/youths for poultry farming at small scale, proper utilization of resources and maximizing the profit from per unit area. He also briefed trainees regarding various facilities provided by K.V.K and GADVASU, Ludhiana. He delivered his lectures on comfortable housing management of different farming system of poultry, breeding programme, diseases of poultry, treatment and its control. Dr Shashi Pal, Assistant Professor, Livestock Production (Course Coordinator) gave lecture and practical exposures on various aspect of breeds of poultry, feeding management of different category of poultry production, record

keeping, reproductive management and economics of poultry farm etc. Dr V. Phulia delivered lecture on integration of poultry farming with aquaculture. Dr Parul Gupta, Assistant Professor delivered lecture on nutritional value of egg and poultry meat and demonstration on value addition of poultry products. Dr Munish Sharma, Assistant Professor (Horticulture) gave lecture on utilization of vegetable leftover in poultry farming and to cut down cost of feeding. He also delivered lectures on horti-poultry model of backyard poultry farming. Dr Shaktikant Das and Dr P.P. Dubey explained about the university poultry farm activities, management and hatchery management during the exposure visit to university poultry farm, Ludhiana. Dr Yogendra Singh Jadoun gave lecture on facilities available in the office of directorate of extension education

and in the different departments of veterinary university for farmers/ youths, and also delivered lectures on designers’ eggs. An exposure visit was arranged for trainees to Swastik commercial hatchery, Sirsma, Kurukshetra. The hatchery owner, Mr Jitendra Kumar made arrangement for the trainees to demonstrate the activities of hatchery, packaging of newly hatched chicks, parent stock and feed mill for parent stock. S. Rattan Singh, bank official discussed regarding the facilities like loan and other schemes available at bank. During this training programme trainees were given practical exposure at broiler poultry farm, Fatehgarh where poultry farm owner cum trainee, Ranjeet Kaur shared his experience on poultry farming with other participants. Publications like poultry farming book in Punjabi and GADVASU handbooks were distributed to the participants.
