Vet Varsity commemorates the Role of Women in Dairy Farming

Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana organized a webinar on “Role of Women in Dairy Farming” on 15 Oct 2020 to celebrate the “ Mahila  Kisan Divas” and International Day of Rural Women. Dr. Parkash Singh Brar, Director Extension Education, GADVASU revealed that women play major role in different chores related to dairy farming. It is need of the hour to empower them with scientific knowledge on dairy farming as well as role of animal products in their health. Dr. Brar informed that university is offering all its training courses free of charge for the women participants. Dr. Sumanpreet Kaur Virk, Veterinary Officer, Veterinary Polytechnic, Kaljharani, Bathinda was the key speaker. On this occasion, Dr. Suman shared her research findings on role of women in dairy farming which she did in border area of Punjab. Dr. Suman further shared the success stories of many women who adopted dairy farming, poultry farming, and value addition of milk as an enterprise and earning handsome money for the sustainability of their family. She further advised the participants about dos’ and don’ts in the dairy farming to extract maximum profitability. She also emphasized that women should take care of their health as milk, milk products, egg and meat are good source of nutrients for maintaining the health.

Dr. R K Sharma, Professor and Head, Department of Veterinary & Animal Husbandry Extension Education said that due to Covid19 pandemic, university is now organizing various webinars and training programmes in online mode. Anybody including the women farmers can participate in these programmes from the home. Dr. Jaswinder Singh, Associate Professor and Coordinator of this training programme revealed that the webinar was attended by nearly 100 participants across the state and he acknowledged the participants for sparing their valuable time to attend this webinar.
