Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Booh, Tarn Taran organized an online World Bee Day at KVK, Tarn Taran with theme Augmenting rural income: The Beekeeping way as part of “Bharat Ka Amrut Mahotsav”. A total number of 25 rural youth and farmers from different villages of district Tarn Taran attended this programme.
Dr. Balwinder Kumar, Associate Director (Training), KVK, Booh, Tarn Taran addressed the participants regarding importance of beekeeping and emphasized on setting up of beekeeping as subsidiary business apart from rearing of livestock. Further, he urged upon the formulation of FPOs, Self – help group regarding beekeeping and urged upon the adoption of bee farming as entrepreneurship and also discussed about the sweet revolution by bee farming. He also addressed the participants about Mini Mission – 1 and various training programmes which will be covered under this project by KVK Tarn Taran.
Dr. Suresh Kumar, Assistant Professor, Livestock Production delivered lecture on management of honey bee colony and strategies to improve the production potential of honey. Dr. Piverjeet Kaur Dhillon, (Assistant Professor, Home Science) explained the nutritive value of honey. She also enlightened the participants about the various value addition techniques to developed filtered honey, strained honey, creamed honey and comb honey.
At the end of the webinar, queries of farmers related to Bee Keeping were resolved by the experts
