Krishi Vigyan Kendra,SAS Nagar (Mohali) conducted training programme on “Scientific Pig Farming” at KVK campus. Dr. Shashi Pal, Assistant Professor (Livestock Production), course coordinator of the training talked about the scope of piggery for the pig enterprise start-up and its future perspectives. He emphasized on the selection of breeds of pig that is highly suitable like Large White Yorkshire. He extended important tips regarding comfortable and economical housing for the successful pig farming. He also suggested pig farm management practices and day to day activities of farm. Dr. Parminder Singh, Associate Director talked about the feed 
for the pigs which accounts 70 percent of the total cost of pig rearing. He suggested the different feed formulations which are required for the different categories/groups of pig and also discussed the economical cost feed formulations. An exposure visit to pig farm at Kishanpura, was arranged for the farmers to show the routine activities of the pig farm. Pig farm owner, Mr. Attar Singh shared his experiences about the farm and showed each section of the farm like piglets, fattening pigs, pregnant sow and boar, as well as discussed about the management of these categories of the pigs. He encouraged the participants to start piggery farm and told that the rate of pig per kg live body weight is very good during this period.
