Vet Varsity conducts Panel Discussion on Quality Silage Making

Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana, organized a panel discussion on "Silage: from making to feeding" in an attempt to increase awareness among dairy farmers.
Dr. Ravinder Singh Grewal, Director of Extension Education informed that high-quality silage is crucial for dairy production due to its numerous advantages. Silage is getting popular among dairy farmers but there are notable disparities in the methods from production to feeding, thus it is important to educate them, he added. Dr Parminder Singh, Additional Director of Extension Education explained the details of silage making.
Dr J S Hundal HoD, department of Animal Nutrition highlighted the silage quality metrics, field quality testing, and testing facilities offered by the university. Dr Navjot Singh Brar, Agronomist described different fodders which can be ensiled, their varieties, cultivation practices and measures to prevent from parasites. Dr Amarpreet Sing Pannu, Senior veterinary officer in Animal Husbandry Department revealed the field condition of silage and shared the diseases cases which encountered due to poor quality silage feeding. Dr Amninder Singh Deol, Veterinary officer shared his experience to make quality silage. Sh. Rajpal Singh Kular, a progressive dairy farmer also shared his views online about quality silage. Dr Jaswinder Singh, HoD Veterinary Extension Dept meticulously coordinated this panel discussion which lasted around two hours. The recording of this panel discussion will be available soon on the university YouTube channel "GADVASU Extension Services”. Dr Singh revealed that the university strives its best to disseminate the scientific practices among the stakeholders and is using all possible means. Around hundred farmers and other stakeholders participated in this panel discussion through online medium and their queries were answered by the panel. It is worth mentioning here that the university frequently hosts similar panel discussions to raise awareness of contemporary issues, and anybody interested can participate online.
