
The Department of Teaching Veterinary Clinical Complex (TVCC), Guru Angad Dev Veterinary an
d Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana, took another stride in community engagement by organizing an impactful training session for officers of the Punjab Home Guards and
Civil Defence on animal welfare and management during disasters.
The session, held under the guidance of Dr. J. Mohindroo, Director of Clinics, focused on preparing frontline responders to safeguard animal lives and public health during emergencies. Dr. Mohindroo highlighted the crucial role of veterinarians as disaster management experts, emphasizing the need for strong and sustained collaboration between the university and disaster management agencies to ensure timely and effective response efforts.
Dr. J.P.S. Gill, Vice Chancellor appreciated the efforts of the team and said that Varsity is dedicated for the welfare of the society.
Expert sessions were conducted by Dr. Randhir Singh, who delivered lectures on animal handling, restraint, and scientific carcass disposal techniques. Dr. Gurpreet Singh, enlightened participants
on zoonotic disease prevention, safe animal evacuation, and protecting communities from contamination during disasters.
The training witnessed active participation from District Commander Rachhpal Singh along with 28 officers, including Company Commanders and Platoon Commanders. They appreciated the university’s efforts in imparting scientific knowledge to enhance disaster readiness.
Dr. Swaran Singh Randhawa, Dean, College of Veterinary Science also motivated the team.
The programme concluded with a message of preparedness and compassion—reinforcing Vet Varsity’s commitment to building a resilient society where animal welfare and public safety go hand in hand during disaster situations.
