Pashu Palan Mela successfully concluded at Veterinary College, Rampura Phul

The Pashu Palan Mela, organized by the College of Veterinary Science, Rampura Phul, a constituent college of the Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana, concluded with the message to adopt modern sustainable animal husbandry practices for livestock breeding, management, feeding, health and welfare to ensure the high profitability of livestock farming. The Pashu Palan Mela held on 13th November, centered on the theme “Pashu Palan – Kheti da Mann, Punjab di Shaan”. A large audience, including the students, faculty, industry professionals, and local farmers participated in the one-day event and showed enthusiasm in learning about the evolving trends in animal husbandry. Shri Gurmeet Singh Khuddian, the Cabinet Minister of Punjab for Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare, Animal Husbandry, Dairying, and Fisheries, was the Chief guest on the occasion. Shri Balkar Singh Sidhu, the Member of the Legislative Assembly, Rampura Phul, was present as the Guest of Honour. Dr. Jatinder Paul Singh Gill, Worthy Vice Chancellor, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana, Dr. Kuldip Gupta, Dean, College of Veterinary Science, Rampura Phul, along with the Chief Guest, Guest of Honour, and Special Guests, inaugurated the one-day mela. Dr. Ravinder Singh Grewal, Director of Extension Education, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana, delivered the welcome address. He emphasized the significance of this animal husbandry fair and congratulated all the organizers for the successful conduct of the event, which highlighted the latest advancements in livestock management, breeding, and veterinary care. 
Chief Guest and other dignitaries visited different stalls and showed keen interest in knowing about the teaching, research, and extension initiatives of the college and university. Shri Gurmeet Singh Khuddian said in his speech that livestock farming is a profession that provides daily earnings and can be enhanced and praised the university for working at the grassroots level to assist farmers with animal-related issues. He also praised the entire veterinary profession for their collaborative efforts in the control of infectious diseases and public awareness about the importance of hygiene and vaccination in animals. Shri Balkar Singh Sidhu emphasized the importance of animal husbandry and appreciated the university's efforts to improve facilities for the betterment of animal stakeholders. Dr. Jatinder Paul Singh Gill said that the university is in the process of adopting the villages so that the university scientists can reach farmers at their level to help them in every aspect. He also highlighted the relevance of efficient animal husbandry practices, besides the scope of entrepreneurial ventures associated with value-added livestock products, for achieving greater profits in livestock farming.
The fair featured a wide variety of exhibits, including live demonstrations on dairy farming, poultry management, and sustainable farming practices, and expert advice on efficient strategies to tackle the common problems associated with livestock farming, especially the dairy sector. All the leading veterinary pharmaceutical companies, dairy and livestock-related equipment, and feed-related factories put up their stalls in the exhibition. Different delicacies prepared by the College of Dairy and Food Science Technology and the Department of Livestock Products Technology were available for sale. 
Renowned experts in the field delivered informative, interactive sessions that offered valuable insights into animal nutrition, health, and welfare. A key highlight of the event was the competition for the best livestock, with participants showcasing high-quality Murrah buffalo, Holstein Friesian cattle, Beetal goats, and Kajali sheep. The top three owners in each category were awarded certificates and cash prizes. The fair included a marketplace with local vendors offering products related to animal feed, equipment’s, and health supplements. The Mela was also attended by dignitaries, officers, heads of departments, faculty, students and staff. This one-day event was a great success, fostering knowledge-sharing and collaboration between academia and industry. It provided a comprehensive platform for networking and deepened the understanding of efficient animal husbandry practices and their role in enhancing farmers’ income. 
Dr. Kuldip Gupta, Dean, College of Veterinary Science, Rampura Phul, extended his gratitude and congratulations to everyone involved in this year's mela, which showcased exceptional teamwork, dedication, and hard work. He attributed the collective efforts of officers, faculty, and non-teaching staff of the college and university for the successful execution of the Pashu Palan Mela.
