Vet Varsity Conducts 3-Day Hoof Trimming Training for Progressive Dairy Farmers and Unemployed Youth

The Department of Teaching Veterinary Clinical Complex (TVCC), Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana, successfully concluded a three-day hands-on training programme on “Hoof Trimming” for progressive dairy farmers and unemployed youth. The training aimed to impart practical skills in hoof care, early detection of lameness, and routine preventive techniques essential for enhancing dairy herd health and productivity. Participants received detailed demonstrations on corrective and maintenance trimming, hoof anatomy, common hoof disorders, hygienic management practices, and lameness prevention strategies. 
Dr. Raj Sukhbir Singh, Course Director highlighted that lameness is a major cause of economic loss in dairy farms and emphasized the significance of regular hoof trimming and proper flooring management to maintain optimal animal health.
Faculty members from Department of TVCC, Veterinary Anatomy, and Directorate of Livestock Farms delivered lectures and supervised hands-on practical training. Participants expressed satisfaction and stated that the training would help them enhance farm profitability, reduce lameness incidence, and create self-employment opportunities through hoof-care services.
Dr. J. Mohindroo, Director Clinics and Training Director, congratulated the team for organizing the programme and encouraged more such skill-oriented initiatives to strengthen rural livelihoods and promote dairy farming.
Dr. Swaran Singh Randhawa, Dean College of Veterinary Science, appreciated the enthusiasm of farmers and youth who actively participated in this training programme, and commended the department for their commitment to skill-based training.
The programme concluded with certificate distribution, and participants thanked university for providing such a valuable, hands-on learning opportunity.
