Vet Varsity kick-starts Six-Week Hybrid Short Course on Bioinformatics

The College of Animal Biotechnology at Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana, has commenced a six-week hybrid short course on Bioinformatics with the objective of strengthening interdisciplinary competencies required in contemporary life sciences and biotechnology. The programme has been designed to address the growing need for skilled human resources capable of integrating biological sciences with computational and data-driven approaches.
Dr C S Mukhopadhyay, HoD of Bioinformatics informed that the programme is structured with five days of online contact classes, followed by an intensive final week of offline theory lectures and hands-on practical training. The curriculum spans foundational to advanced bioinformatics, providing guided exposure to biocomputational analysis, programming for biological data, and molecular data interpretation.
Dr. RS Sethi, Dean, College of Animal Biotechnology, stated that the course is open to graduates and postgraduates from life sciences, health sciences, biotechnology, and allied disciplines. The current batch includes 12 enthusiastic participants drawn from different states across India. Dr Sethi appreciated the initiative for effectively integrating classical biology with contemporary computational tools to promote innovation, skill development, and excellence in animal biotechnology.
Dr JPS Gill, Vice Chancellor lauded the launch of the short course and remarked that initiatives of this nature reaffirm University’s strong commitment to interdisciplinary education, capacity building, and adoption of emerging scientific domains. He emphasized that such programmes play a vital role in nurturing a future-ready scientific workforce aligned with national and global research priorities.
