National Training on Ultrasonography and other imaging techniques at Veterinary University

Department of Surgery and Radiology, GADVASU is organizing a national level 21 days advanced refresher training course on “Ultrasonography and other diagnostic modalities for farm and companion animals” since 12th February 2009 under the aegis of Center of Advanced Studies (CAS), ICAR. Today Eminent medical practitioner Dr K.S. Soin from Soin Diagnostic Center, Ludhiana delivered an expert lecture on 3D/4D ultrasonography and demonstrated the use of colour Doppler system. that this department has recently introduced. Dr N.S. Saini, Director CAS and Head department of Surgery and Radiology informed that Colored Doppler System has recently been acquired by the department for diagnostic purpose in veterinary patients.

Further Dr Saini added that the Centre of Advanced Studies was established in the department in the year 1994. Till date the department has conducted 20 national level training courses on various topics and over 215 Veterinary Surgeons / Clinicians from various State Veterinary Universities/ State Agricultural Universities/ICAR Institutes have been trained. According to Dr Saini 30 applications were received from all over India for this training course out of which 15 candidates were selected who represented 10 states. In this course the participants are undergoing training on Ultrasonographic diagnosis of stomach disorders and ultrasound guided biopsy procedures for small and large animal patients. Expert lectures on radiography, computerized radiography, endoscopy, echocardiography, laparoscopy, MRI, ultrasonography, 3D/4D ultrasonography, ultrasound guided biopsy and clinical biochemistry are being organized.

Dr S.S. Singh, Dean College of Veterinary Sciences informed that College of Veterinary Science is planning to have a specialized ‘Imaging center’ which will have Color Doppler, computerized radiography, CT scan and MRI facilities which will cater to the need of veterinary patients from all over North India.
