
Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana trained 39 enthusiastic participants, including five women participants, from different districts of Punjab for Goat and Sheep farming.
Dr. J. P. S. Gill, Vice-Chancellor appreciated the extension wing of the University for dissemination of scientific knowledge. He informed that goat and sheep farming are emerging as profitable
enterprises among farmers and rural youth due to its evergreen scope and increasing market demand. Punjab is known for renowned breeds such as the Beetal (Gurdaspuri) goat and Kajli sheep, which are gaining popularity among livestock farmers. He enlightened that scientific knowledge and proper management practices are essential for becoming a successful entrepreneur.
Dr. R. S. Grewal, Director of Extension Education, stated that the university is continuously striving to promote scientific livestock farming practices through various outreach and training programmes. He highlighted that goat farming provides excellent opportunities for small and marginal farmers because of its low investment and quick economic returns. He further highlighted the importance of value addition in goat milk and meat products, including goat cheese and other processed products, as a means to enhance farmers’ income and promote goat farming as a profitable enterprise.
Dr. Jaswinder Singh, HoD, Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension Education, informed that the five day training covered scientific practices related to breeding, feeding, housing, healthcare, and enterprise management.
A special lecture was delivered by a progressive goat farmer Master Nishan Singh Pannu, who shared practical experiences and inspiring success stories from his goat farming journey, motivating participants towards livestock entrepreneurship.
The programme was coordinated by Dr. Akshita Chadda along with student coordinator Dr. Navroz. Participants highly appreciated the interactive sessions and practical demonstrations, expressing confidence in adopting scientific goat farming practices for profitable entrepreneurship.
